Marta and Julie take on the 200 km route of Liberté & Patrie, the ultrafondo that celebrates the canton of Vaud.
The Vaud ultrafondo
Liberté & Patrie — the motto of the canton of Vaud — is also an ultrafondo that has celebrated Vaud territory since 2023. Its twist is the whole point: you start whenever you choose, but everyone aims for the same finish, by 4 p.m. on Saturday. Two formats — 200 km · 3000 m D+ or 360 km · 6500 m D+, starting from Nyon — and one idea: solo efforts that come together at the line. More than a race, a collective challenge.
Marta & Julie on the 200 km
To give themselves some margin, Marta and Julie chose a pre-dawn start: on 11 July 2026 at 4:16 a.m., lights on in the dark, they set off from Nyon toward the Jura Vaudois and the canton’s roads.
They completed the 200 km and 3090 m of climbing in 13h10. For Julie, it was her first-ever 200 km ride — a milestone reached in one go.
